What are the differences between a round and a square watch?

When you browse through the watches online or we visit shops ourselves for a wristwatch, we see two dominant shapes. These are either a round shape or a square shape. Although there are other shapes as well because of the choices made by the designers, those shapes are still based on these two main themes. In this article, we try to explore round vs square watches.

Differences:

When we say differences, shapes have nothing to do with the hardware inside a watch. There are watches with astronomical price tags in both shapes. However, we see more round-shaped watches than square swatches.

If we compare the prices we see that the most expensive watches had round shapes. In fact, a square shape is not always preferred by the buyers of expensive luxury brands. Graff Diamonds Hallucination is one such watch with a hefty price tag of US $55 Million. We took this name for a list of 21 watches, and frankly speaking, there are only a few watches with square or rectangular motifs. They are expensive too, but not as expensive as the round shape watches. Franck Muller Aeternitas Mega 4 has a rectangular shape, and a price tag of US $2.7 Million - not much compared to the Graff Diamonds, is it?

We cannot really blame the square or rectangular motif of the watch faces. They are beautiful as well. However, since the beginning of the history of watches and dials, the only shape that the philosophers or scientists used was the round shape. As humans, we have an affinity toward round shapes when it comes to timepieces.

In the present world, we have smartwatches as well. We cannot forget that. These watches have so many functions. However, if you want extreme functionality like reading PDF files, playing games, messages, or emails, the round shape is not so suitable for this work. Instead of round shapes, we have been reading from rectangular monitors of PCs, laptops, and mobile phone displays. Naturally, for these functions, we have a stronger affinity to rectangular shapes.

Overall, none of the shapes will hinder your daily life. They both are meant for your comfort and bring innovation and creativity to the design of the watch dials. Therefore, choosing a shape will solely depend on your personal taste and liking.
